Promoting the friendship and exchanges between Sacramento and Jinan
As our annual program, we partner with the International World Peace Rose Gardens https://www.worldpeacerosegardens.org/) and sponsor Jinan students to participate in the Inspiring Peace Messenger Contest. Over the past decade, tens of thousands of Jinan students, from elementary schools to middles school and high schools, submitted their messages of peace written in English. We are moved and inspired by their elegant poems and thought-provoking messages.
Not even the coronavirus could stop the Jinan students from joining international youth in writing poems for the 2020 Inspirational Messages of Peace Contest for the 28th Anniversary Celebration of the Martin Luther King, Jr. “I Have a Dream” World Peace Rose Garden in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. It is a partnership project between the National Park Service at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park (Atlanta), International World Peace Rose Gardens (a nonprofit in Sacramento), and the Jinan-Sacramento Sister Cities Corporation (JSSCC).
We commend the Jinan students who wrote poems from their home and submitted them to their teacher. The poems we received were deep, meaningful and well written. We are happy to report a winner and five finalists. The top winning poem will be engraved on a plaque and placed in the “I HAVE A DREAM” WORLD PEACE ROSE GARDEN at the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park in Atlanta, Georgia, USA for one year with 29 other winning poems. Here is the winning poem from Jinan:
TO PEACE
You haunt my dreams
The world is surrounded by you.
Your loving smile comforts millions
The messenger dove flies.
Your gentle attitude makes nations prosper
“Peace, where are you?”
“My dear child, I am in your heart.”
