Promoting the friendship and exchanges between Sacramento and Jinan
We are committed to promoting the friendship and exchanges between Sacramento and Jinan since the Sacramento City Council endorsed the sister-city relationship in a Resolution on October 16, 1984. Since then, all three former Mayors of Sacramento – Anne Rudin, Joe Serna and Heather Fargo – have visited China with our delegation during their terms as Mayor.
Our programs encompass two continents in the fields of education, culture and businesses. We offer scholarship and subsidized trips for Sacramento and Jinan students and teachers to visit each other and study in each other’s cities. We assist academic exchange between universities in Sacramento and Jinan. We organize biannual Friendship Trips to China led by elected officials from Sacramento in addition to hosting Jinan city officials in Sacramento. We also sponsor and participate in events promoting Chinese culture and friendship in the local community.
Our ‘Youth Ambassador’ program enables Sacramento students and Jinan students to visit each other and study in each other’s cities. Since 2006, JSSCC has sponsored local students and teachers on subsidized ‘Youth Ambassador’ trips to China every summer. Past participants describe it as an eye-opening experience and a life-changing trip. We also sponsored Jinan students and their teacher to visit Sacramento and participate in the Sacramento Youth Symphony’s summer workshop and concerts in the last two years.
